Market overview
Staffing in Los Angeles.
Los Angeles is a residence-first market. Most of our LA searches begin with a household — Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Pacific Palisades, Malibu, or Holmby Hills — and expand into business and personal support around the principal. The talent pool is deep for private staff (Estate Managers, House Managers, Personal Assistants, Private Chefs) and increasingly deep for Chiefs of Staff and senior EAs supporting entertainment principals, studio and label executives, and the growing set of Silicon Beach founders operating between Santa Monica, Venice, and Culver City. Multi-property searches are the norm; a single-residence LA role is the exception rather than the rule.
Who we're serving
Our LA clients are principals of entertainment and media companies, family compounds spanning multiple residences, studio and label executives with complex private lives, and founders based in Santa Monica, Venice, and Culver City building private operations for the first time. We also work with a growing set of family offices that have relocated from New York or opened a second base in Los Angeles.
Compensation in Los Angeles
What roles typically pay.
- Estate Manager
- $200K–$400K base for multi-residence households. Compounds with 8+ staff or dedicated security teams sit at the top of the range.
- Chief of Staff
- $225K–$400K base plus bonus. Entertainment principals typically add discretionary long-term compensation tied to tenure or specific projects.
- House Manager
- $130K–$210K per residence depending on staff size, entertaining cadence, and whether the manager oversees a single property or reports into an Estate Manager across a portfolio.
- Private Chef
- $150K–$260K plus benefits. Travel-heavy chefs, chefs with specific dietary specialization, or chefs supporting principals with performance nutrition needs sit at the top.
Figures are market ranges; every search is calibrated to the specific mandate.
Hiring in Los Angeles
How searches actually run here.
The defining challenge in Los Angeles searches is privacy. Many of our LA principals cannot appear anywhere in outbound recruiting materials, which means the search runs entirely through direct partner-led outreach — no LinkedIn post, no third-party sourcers, no candidate-facing branding. Reference calls in LA also require particular care: candidates coming from entertainment or family compound backgrounds often have references who are themselves public figures, and we conduct those calls personally and with the same discretion the principal expects for themselves.
Frequently asked
Los Angeles searches.
- Do you handle security-cleared or NDA-only roles?
- Yes. A large share of our LA engagements are NDA-first and identity-protected throughout the search. Where household security is part of the role, we coordinate with the principal's existing security team on background checks and access.
- Can you build out a full household staff, not just a single hire?
- Yes. We regularly lead multi-hire household builds — Estate Manager, House Manager, Personal Assistant, Private Chef, and occasionally additional roles — sequenced so the first hire helps shape the next.
- Do you place staff who can travel between LA, New York, and abroad?
- Yes. Multi-residence and international travel are common expectations in LA searches, and we calibrate them upfront so candidates on the shortlist are actually available.
